Yaeji's debut full-length mixtape is an unpretentious, more inward turn for the maker, made and released during the worldwide pandemic in 2020 and through XL Recordings. With What We Drew, Yaeji finds clarity in being exposed, in the pendulum swing of her humankind. More gregarious than any other time in recent memory in its appreciation for people around her, probably the best tracks are valentines to the musicians and artists who fill Yaeji's reality — and she has been proactive building scenes, from New York to Seoul — and her appreciation for the community feels all the sweeter, offset with her disclosures of struggle.
