JOY CROOKES - SKIN
JOY CROOKES - SKIN
Joy Crookes, a British singer-songwriter, released her first studio album, Skin, on October 15, 2021, via Insanity Records. The album produced four singles, including "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" and "When You Were Mine," which both peaked at number one on the UK Asian Top 40 list. The record was a 2022 Mercury Prize nominee.
Skin, an "autobiographical body of work" influenced by Crookes' history and identity as well as her experiences of young adulthood and heartache, is mostly a modern soul-jazz record driven by orchestral string arrangements. Upon its release, the album received a great deal of praise from critics, who praised the sound, lyrics, and Crookes' singing.
