Hyderabad-based composer and producer Somnium Monkey presents Vettam
and Butterfly Effect — two interconnected EPs that unfold as companion
pieces.
Taking its name from the Malayalam word വെ #ം (“light”), Vettam channels
modular synths, field recordings, harsh drones, and fractured rhythms into a
dense and immersive sonic landscape, where fleeting moments of clarity
dissolve into dissonance.
Butterfly Effect serves as the second chapter, moving toward warmer,
dreamlike territory through layered synths, humid atmospheres, and hypnotic
rhythmic cycles. On the title track, Somnium Monkey collaborates with longtime
friend and musician Bahneman Saikia, whose raga-inspired vocals drift through
foghorn-like distortions and corrupted noise.
Together, the two EPs explore light, transformation, and the shifting tension
between abrasion and release.
