Ravi Shankar's Shankar Family & Friends is a groundbreaking album that bridges the gap between Eastern and Western musical traditions.  Produced by none other than George Harrison (yes, the one from The Beatles!), this 1974 release features a unique blend of Indian classical music, rock, jazz, and pop.

Shankar is joined by a veritable who's who of musical talent on this album.  On the Indian side, you'll hear the legendary tabla player Alla Rakha and the santoor maestro Shivkumar Sharma.  Representing the West are rock royalty Ringo Starr and guitarist Klaus Voormann.  The result is a musical gumbo that's both innovative and incredibly listenable.
