Night Song is a collaborative studio album by Pakistani qawwali vocalist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Canadian ambient music performer, guitarist and producer Michael Brook. Recorded in 1995 and released in 1996 on Real World Records, it was Khan's last album for the label during his lifetime and contains verses about relationships and spiritual cleanliness. The two had not worked for quite a while however teamed up for this piece of work in 1995, naming it Night Song. The record was created by Brook, who experienced an innovative however troublesome creation process for the music. Khan recorded improvisations for the album, and Brook needed to conclude what segments, some of which were drawn out, worked and the way they fit together, without having a primary perspective to begin with or point towards. He had parts recorded on multi-track tapes, and made each track part by part, overdubbing his instrumentation on top of it, a manual process that originated before simple forms of digital editing.
