A big thank you to everyone who made Hi-Funk Vol. 1 such a memorable night. We are excited to bring the series back with Volume 2.
Funk emerged as an act of defiance, rooted in Afro-American struggle, and grew into a rhythmic commons for postcolonial societies around the world. Its focus on groove, bodily freedom, and collectivism travelled far beyond its origins, taking on local forms wherever it landed.
Our funk series continues with the same intention, paying homage to a genre that moves bodies instinctively, this time going deeper into the groove. Expect Libyan funk, synthesizers moving along the Silk Route, Venezuelan disco-funk, and other naturalised funk dialects.
Hi-Funk is our celebration of that universality. Funk as living dance music that does not need permission or translation, meant to be felt together, in the room.
For Volume 2, the setting shifts, but the spirit remains. The floor is guided by deep listeners and vinyl-rooted selectors who let the records do the talking.
Your ticket also includes a MISFIT spritzer by Grover Wine, to sip on while the grooves unfold. Come through and lock in. Let the room do the rest.
