This month marked a significant milestone for On The Jungle Floor as we celebrated our 5th birthday! Since our inception in 2019, we've dedicated ourselves to curating music, art, and cultural experiences for our community across India. To celebrate, we gathered everyone we know and love at Indiranagar Social on June 23rd for an unforgettable celebration.
The day kicked off with a movie spotlight hosted by Boo Ya Watchin!'s Mahima Venugopalan, featuring the cult classic "Empire Records" (1995). This comedy-drama about a group of quirky employees at an independent record store perfectly set the tone. A small quiz during the interval promised freebies to everyone that answered correctly.
Following the film, the atmosphere shifted with a very special World Music set at the speakeasy room. French DJ extraordinaire Maddwax, a passionate vinyl addict with two decades of experience, graced the decks. His set was a delightful journey through funk and jazz from South America and Brazil, captivating everyone with his eclectic selections.
Following him was Digging in India’s Nishant Mittal, who delivered a special two-hour set. As an archivist, vinyl selector, and collector, Nishant showcased an extensive catalog that spanned Indian rare grooves, African disco, Arabic jazz, and City Pop.
Our record store pop-up had a new edition this time; Our new lineup of vinyl furniture available for pre-order, along with tote bags and OTJF turns 5-themed stickers.
Once we wrapped up the World Music sets, we made our way upstairs for DJ Uri's ode to 90’s Hip-Hop. Known for his heavyweight bass, scratches, live sampling, and finger drumming, is sound, built on 20 years in the Indian scene and regular shows across Europe, was a high-energy close to the night, and had everyone grooving.
Our 5th birthday bash was a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and most importantly, our community. We are immensely grateful to everyone who joined us and to those who have supported us over the years. Here’s to many more!
